nvcc
nvcc is the CUDA compiler driver that coordinates compilation of CUDA C++ host and device code. It invokes multiple compilation stages rather than being a single device-code transformation.
How it works
Build flags select virtual and real GPU targets, optimization settings and generated artifacts. Device assembly and linking can create cubins; a fat binary can package several images. The host compiler also participates in the build.
Work through an example
To reproduce a performance result, record the toolkit, host compiler, target flags and source revision. Two builds of the same source can produce different native kernels.
Where the term can mislead
The default target choices of one toolkit are not a deployment policy. Explicitly include and test the targets needed by the fleet.
